Now and Next

As I dive deeper and deeper into me, the real me, the authentic me, not the me I’ve tried to be, or the me I was told to be, or the me my parents wanted me to be, or the me my husband wanted me to be, the real me, the one that actually feels good when I look in the mirror, I’ve learned a lot about myself.

One of the biggest ways I’ve been able to uncover this version of me and scrape off all the layers of literal bullshit that had built up over the years has been through personal development. Through connecting with my energy. Through grounding myself.

But recently, something new found its way into my awareness, something called Human Design.

And if I’m being totally honest, if it weren’t for the energy of the person who was teaching me about it, I probably would have rolled my eyes and moved on. But her energy was magnetic, calm, confident, knowing. So I listened.

And holy hell… it’s actually really interesting.

One of the things I learned about my personal design is that I’m what’s called a “Now and Next” person. Let me explain.

For most of my life, I’ve lived off lists. Giant, overwhelming, soul-crushing lists. The kind where I write down every single thing I need to do, personal, professional, home, business, and then by the time I finish the list, I’m already exhausted and annoyed with myself.

And inevitably, life happens. The phone rings. Emails come in. Clients need something. The kids have a crisis. The animals have emergencies. Suddenly the day’s gone, and I’m left staring at that massive list feeling like a failure because I didn’t get it all done.

But this “Now and Next” concept? It changed everything.

Instead of looking at my day like a mountain I have to climb, I focus only on now and next. That’s it.

What do I need to do right now? And when that’s done, what’s next? That’s the whole system.

It might sound small or even silly, but the shift it’s created in my energy, my focus, and my stress levels is enormous.

I’m not worried about forgetting what’s on my list, it’s all still there somewhere in my brain or my notes app, but I’m no longer chained to it. I’m not living under the pressure of “getting it all done.”

I’m living in the now, doing what actually matters in this moment, and when that’s done, I move to the next.

And the craziest part? I’m actually getting more done.

Because instead of thinking about doing the thing, and then writing it down, and then getting distracted and writing down five other things, I just do it.

Now and next. That’s it.

And for me, as a Manifesting Generator (if you’re into Human Design, you know what that means), this is magic. It’s the way I’m wired to operate.

So if you’re like me, juggling businesses, kids, clients, chaos, and about ten different lifetimes’ worth of dreams, try this.

Forget the monster list for a day. Just focus on Now and Next. It might just change everything.
