Immediate Results vs. Long-Term Wellness

11/28/2023

In the pursuit of rapid improvements, there's often a temptation to layer treatments such as microneedling, chemical peels, and IPL. It's vital to understand the importance of timing these treatments appropriately.

Here's Why Mixing Certain Procedures Isn't Advisable:
  • Heightened Inflammation: Concurrent treatments can induce excessive inflammation, delaying recovery and potentially contributing to premature aging.
  • Irregular Outcomes: Prepping the skin with exfoliation before a chemical peel can cause inconsistent acid absorption, risking post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).
  • Injury Potential: Performing microneedling before chemical peels may lead to unnecessary skin trauma, as peels are formulated to penetrate the skin effectively on their own.
  • Sensitivity to Heat: IPL treatments generate heat, which, when coupled with the reactive agents in peels, increases the risk of blistering or significant irritation.
A Safer Treatment Schedule:
  • Microdermabrasion + Chemical Peels: Space them at least one week apart.
  • Microneedling + Chemical Peels: Observe a 1-2 week interval between treatments. Depending on the peel level.
  • IPL + Chemical Peels: Provide a 1-2 week gap to ensure safety. Depending on the peel level.

Understanding the Healing Process

Your skin requires an adequate period to heal and regenerate following treatments. For instance, the synthesis of Collagen III takes about 2-3 weeks. Hastening this natural process can lead to complications such as:
  • Persistent Redness
  • Skin Irritation
  • A Rough, Dry Skin Texture
  • Potential for Pigmentation Issues or Scarring

Patience is Rewarding

Effective skincare should be approached like constructing a masterpiece—carefully and deliberately. By adhering to the recommended intervals, you're more likely to achieve desirable results with minimal risks.

We have a super in depth peel course if you want to learn more about how to mix these modalities safely. Have a great week!
